Luigi Di Maio is a freelance journalist and was Minister for Foreign Affairs during the Mario Draghi Government from February 2021 to October 2022.
As Minister for Foreign Affairs he carried out the institutional reform which transferred the responsibility of export, international commerce and investment to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and was responsible for the Export Pact, a Made in Italy reform policy allowing a historic growth of Italian products exported around the world during his term as Foreign Minister. He took a particular interest in the wider Mediterranean area paying special attention to Libya.
He was President of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe supporting and obtaining the exclusion of Russia from the institution following the invasion of Ukraine. He is among the negotiators and signatories of the Italian energy agreement following the crisis in Ukraine. Due to this initiative the position of Italian Special Envoy for Climate Change was created.
Prior to this he was Vice President of the Council of Ministers, Minister for Economic Development and Minister of Labour. He was the youngest person in the history of the Italian Republic to hold each of these positions.
He was Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies from February 2013 to March 2018.
In 2016 he was nominated by Forbes magazine as one of the most influential under 30s in Europe.
